The Basketball Village is Coming into Being!
The dreadful earthquakes that hit 11 provinces in Southeastern Turkey centered around KahramanMaraş on FEB 6th, 2023 created many losses, and united our country behind selfless relief undertakings;
BIDEV is continuing its work towards short- medium and long term relief undertakings in line with our main principles of solidarity, support and education as prioriticised in our Foundation Deed…

Our first efforts right after the earthquakes involved the sending supplies and items of urgent need. Basketball Coach and BIDEV volunteer Mahmut Şimşek and his working group coordinated these efforts, in liaison with the Turkish Basketball Federation (TBF) and the Turkish Basketball Coaches Association (TUBAD) which enabled crucial supplies directly being distributed to those survivors in need.
Futher to that, 70 large packages of various urgent supplies including but not limited to hygiene materials, baby food, children’s (and elderlies) nappies and dry snacks and nourishments were handed over to the ‘in kind’ donation campaign of the Turkish Directorate of Foundations via their 1st Regional Directorate of Istanbul and were all shipped by them to the regions in need.
As part of our medium to long term efforts, and according to a protocol signed with Polimeks Holding, where our Trustee Erol Tabanca is Chairman of the Board, The Turkish Basketball Federation (TBF) and the Turkish Basketball Coaches Association (TUBAD) – we are working on building a ‘Basketball Village’ in Belen, Hatay which is one of the most heavily hit areas by the earthquake. The ‘Basketball Village’ will include 100 containers which will provide shelter for 800 people, as well as 4 social function containers…
The protocol signed accommodates a special site of 11,397m2 situated in Belen, which was donated to our ‘Basketball Village Project’ by the district governorate of Belen. Our site is right on the İskenderun-Hatay highway. The District Governorate will complete all infrastructure constructions needed for decent living conditions and related formalities before handing us the site.
And most importantly, our ‘Basketball Village’ will have a basketball court and other game & fun social areas.
Your donations towards our ‘Basketball Village’ will create invaluable support towards helping the region recover from the drastic destruction of the earthquake and bringing the survivors back to normal life – as much as possible….
